Vintage + Stripes

There are so many pieces in my wardrobe that I love, however, some pieces hold special sentiment. Every once and a while I look through my closet and remember where or when I bought a certain item, who I was with, who gave it to me, or how I felt on that day... sometimes those memories can make an item even more amazing an it already is.

This outfit is particularly meaningful for precisely those reasons. The skirt was given to me by my sister, the belt, stolen from my dad, and jewelry from my mom and both of my grandmothers. I love it when an outfit comes together and not only makes me feel confident, but keeps me thinking of my favorite people all day long!

Happy Friday, everyone! Here's to a memorable weekend!

Falling for Fall: FNO SF 2012

Fall is fast approaching, and although the San Francisco summer weather is nearing just as things are cooling down elsewhere, I couldn't be more excited for this season fall trends. Last Thursday at Fashion's Night Out (FNO) in San Francisco, which marks the beginning of New York Fashion Week, I got a healthy dose of what I'd like to see in my closet this season.

Thanks to Alice + Olivia, Heidi Says, Black Fleece and Marc Jacobs, here are a few things I'm most excited about:

Peplum, prints, deep oxblood reds, and structured jackets

Pretty patterned heels and flats

Anything with sparkles and/or lace, along with delicate details

EMERALD, emerald and more emerald! And a little leopard too

Knits, wool, herringbone and tweeds for warmth on cooler days

I'm even excited for menswear and menswear inspired looks!

Olive and electric blue, in luxurious leather and suede

Leather, boots and ultra feminine bow details

And lots and lots of jewels!

What are you looking forward to this fall season?

Happy Wednesday!

DIY: Geoff's Red Chairs

My very dear friend, Geoff, loves bright colors! So when he asked for my assistance in finding red chairs I knew this meant BRIGHT red! We were on a mission, and as most of my furniture missions begin we started our search at the Alameda Flea Market. After an hour or so of searching and enjoying some delicious food, a la food truck, we found exactly what we were looking for... Well, minus the bright read, but a quick DIY would make Geoff's dreams a reality.

1. Clean the chairs
2. Remove the legs (if possible)

3. Tape off any parts of the chair you don't want painted
4. Spray chairs with a primer

5. Spray chairs with desired color, wait for them to dry
6. Spray a second coat, if desired
7. Spray a clear coat to finish

* we only ended up using one coat of paint that had a gloss and achieved the desired effect... a much faster option

Voila! Geoff's dinning room transformed and well on it's way to becoming beautiful!

The stencil/wall hanging is from The Container Store (here) and the super adorable PacMan light, "Blinky" is by a local artist here in San Francisco.

Geoff, unlike me, could double as a botanist. His thumbs are greener than Kermit the frog! A good options for someone who is unable to keep plants alive (such as myself) is a terrarium with mosses. They're dried plants and things that require very little water and care. I thought I would share one of Geoff's latest terrarium creations with you all. Enjoy!

Happy Tuesday!

Blue Hues

Two things I love: Shopping (obviously!) and jeans! However... shopping for jeans is generally a less then enjoyable experience for me. I have shorter, muscular legs thanks to a lifetime of athletic activity and a gene pool that doesn't include a lot of height.

My solution... search for brands that include stretch, various lengths, multiple cuts/styles, and a great tailor! That last one is KEY; lets just say that if it went for a good tailor I'd be spending everyday in dresses and skirts.

I recently fell madly in love with the brand DL1961 for all the reasons listed above, not to mention their wide range of colors and high quality fabrication. My motto: never under estimate the power of a good tailor and greatly fitting pair of jeans; they can make you feel as if you can take on the world!

What are your favorite jean brands?

Cheers to a weekend of world conquering and jean wearing!

xx, C

Back to School

Today marks a very important day for me. This is my last ever first day of school. While I'm very excited about what lies ahead in my future, as well as never again having projects or homework after this year, I'm finding myself nostalgic for the days of "back to school shopping." In honor of my last year, here's a wish lust of a couple of the things I think will come in handy this year.

Happy Thursday, all!

xx, A
