Black Details

Top: American Apparel, Skirt: BCBG, Camisole: Unknown, Belt: Anthropologie, Tights: Hue, Boots: Steven, Handmade Necklace

Whether it's a little black dress or black on black separates at least once a week I find myself in head to toe black; this outfit being no exception. However, one thing I noticed about my favorite black pieces in my closet is that it's all in the details. Each pieces has a unique characteristic to keep it from being boring in black. I am obsessed with subtle details on my clothes; a simple fold in the fabric, a subtle pattern, slight ruching, a touch of lace, the details add that little something special.

Whenever I find myself shopping, which is quite often, it's the pieces with simple classic shapes and very subtle details that I always end up finding their way to my closet! I guess you could say I like my clothes like a like my chocolate, classic milk with a hint of something extra!

Happy Presidents Day!

Off white

Leather Jacket: Vince, Blazer: Anthropologie, Dress: Paul & Joe Sister, Boots: Sam Edleman, Bag: Foley & Corinna, Scarf: Borrowed from my Mom, Jewelry: Vintage, Hat: Madewell

Shades of off-white are not my typical go to colors; ivory, eggshell, ecru, etc. These colors have always been a challenge for my extremely fair skin. However, when paired with my favorite olive earth tone and a berry lip, the off-white appears to be just right.

At first when purchasing this dress online, I was almost sure I would be returning it due to its hue. Yet, when the dress arrived I was presently surprise with its versatility, and we have been inseparable ever since. It is just perfect when paired with a bright red blazer, chartreuse cardigan, colored tights, striped jacket or just on its own, with a little pop of color of course. I'll admit it's difficult for me not to fall in love with a cute dress, cinched at the waist with a hint of feminine detailing.

I have a feeling this is going to be the perfect layering piece and go-to item for my long weekend in Wisconsin. Happy Thursday, everyone! From 30,000 feet

simply simple

In the "winter months" my go to outfits consist of dresses, tights, and boots. I make every attempt to mix it up, but on those rushed days my fall backs are generally a mixed variation on those three items.

When in a rush it never hurts to have a few go-to pieces to get you going. I rely heavily on my simple staple dresses and selection of boots to get me through those mornings when the creative juices just aren't flowin'. A few of those pieces include: a cashmere sweater dress; because cashmere makes everything better,  a button-up shirt dress in my favorite color (also here), must have black tights in a variety of patterns, and of course BOOTS, boots and more boots!

As always, I love feedback, so let me know what you think. Are you as obsessed with boots as I am!? What are your favorite go-to outfits?

Happy hump  day!

ladies who layer

Dress + Coat: Banana Republic, Sweater: J. Crew, Belt: Urban Outfitters, Scarf: H&M, Purse: unknown, Heels: L.A.M.B, Jewelry: Vintage, Lipstick: Benetint & NARS - Damage

Layering is an absolute must in San Francisco; the weather can change on a dime. I swore up and down my first year of living here that it was NEVER cold... "You don't know COLD until you've spent a winter in below freezing temperatures!" However, after four years of this climate, I must admit, I am frequently cold. It's true, I have become a wimp. The prefect solution to this problem is layer, layer, and… layer!

I am almost never without the essentials: a scarf, a sweater, a jacket, and a large purse to carry them in. The truth is layering is great for just about any occasion or climate, the beach, the slopes, the office, a night out... My motto (copied from the Boy scouts): "Always be prepared." I find the best layering pieces are light enough to fold in your purse, yet cover enough to provide warmth, and they must be versatile.

I love all of the pieces in this outfit, and must admit they are rotated and layered through my weekly wardrobe all too often. What are your favorite layering pieces?

Hope you are all having a very happy Monday!
